Maddy Shuman Mrs. Rankin English III honors 25 November 2014 Palacio, R J. Wonder. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2012. Wonder by R J, Palacio tells the story of a ten-year old boy, August. August Pullman is a young boy with extreme facial abnormalities. August says, â€Å"Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.† In that quote, August is referring to his face; all his life he has recivred stares and horrified looks. Due to his 27 surgeries, he has been homeschooled. It is now time for him to start the fifth grade, but on top of that, he is also about to start attending a public school. The story is told from multiple point of view. The reader gets the point of views of August, his sister Via and her boyfriend, Summer and Jack, as well as an old friend of his sister, Miranda. The Pullman family lives in a townhouse in present day Upper Manhattan in New York City. Auggie s middle school, Beecher Prep, is within walking distance from his home.Via s school, on the other hand, is about a fifteen minute drive. Before August attends his new school, he gets to check it out first. He also gets the opportunity to meet three new people: Jack Will, Julian, and Charlotte. â€Å" What’s the deal with your face? I mean were you in a fire of something?† This is when August gets that feeling that this could be the worst decision he has ever made. However, August’s final decision is to attend Beecher.
